Who is MUELLER ? Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAS)

Outgoing Aer Lingus chief Christoph Mueller has been named today as the CEO-designate of Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAS NewCo), confirming The Malaysian Insider's report on changes in the ailing flag carrier.
Celcom chief executive Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramli will also join the MAS board as non-executive director, MAS main shareholder Khazanah Nasional Berhad said in a statement today. Mueller will be the first non-Malaysian chief executive of MAS.
Mueller will also join the board as a non-executive director. His and Shazalli's appointments to the board will be effective January 1.

Shazalli is to continue as CEO and Director of Celcom Axiata Berhad.
The appointments are part of the sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional's efforts to rescue and restructure the national airline.

In the statement, Khazanah said it conducted an extensive global leadership search for suitable talent and had rigorously looked at numerous Malaysian and foreign candidates from within and outside of the aviation industry.

“The appointments are key initiatives under the 12-point MAS Recovery Plan (MRP), which calls for the strengthening of the airline’s leadership as it transitions to MAS

NewCo over the coming months to 1 July 2015.”
The appointments were decided yesterday at a meeting of the Khazanah Board of Directors chaired by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

Also announced were the heads of the new Corporate Reskilling Centre (CRC) which had been set up to re-train the thousands of MAS employees who are being laid-off as part of the restructuring plan.

Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid has been made CRC chairman, while Shahryn Azmi has been appointed its chief executive officer.
Also appointed was Datuk Boonler Somchit appointed as CRC non-executive director and adviser.
“As announced by Khazanah previously, the CRC and Outplacement Centre, is intended to collectively provide re-skilling, job creation and redeployment opportunities for employees not migrating to MAS NewCo,” the statement said.

The CRC is to be launched by 1 April 2015.
The Cabinet, on August 27, had approved the restructuring plan put forward by Khazanah for the airline which, among others, would see up to 6,000 jobs cut.

The plan was deemed necessary as MAS had been suffering financial losses for years.
Mueller, whose contract with Aer Lingus ends on May 1 next year, is scheduled to assume the post of MAS NewCo CEO between March and May.

MAS NewCo plans to start operations on July 1 next year.

"A German citizen, Mr. Mueller has been CEO of Aer Lingus, Ireland’s national airline since 2009. He brings more than 25 years of relevant experience in the aviation, logistics and tourism sectors to MAS,” the statement said.
Khazanah revealed that Mueller has been credited with turning around the loss-making Aer Lingus.

“In the last four-and-half years, Mr. Mueller turned around the loss-making airline within a year, in a declining Irish market and tepid European market conditions.

“Aer Lingus’ new business model has allowed the 78-year-old carrier to compete in a difficult market environment with both traditional legacy airlines and low-cost carriers,” the statement said.

His track record of corporate turnarounds began from his time at Lufthansa. He then moved on to Sabena Group (part of the Swissair Group), DHL Express and global travel leisure group TUI AG.
“After the merger of the tourism activities of TUI AG with First Choice Holidays Plc into TUI Travel Plc, a FTSE 100 company, he took the role of Executive Director, Aviation.

“He was responsible for a fleet of 160 aircraft operated by seven independent airlines in Europe and Morocco,” the statement said.Bashir is currently Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) adviser and will continue to hold that role along with that of CRC chairman.

Prior to that, he was MAHB managing director for 11 years and has held senior positions in MAS and was also Aviation Advisor to the Transport Ministry.
Shahryn is currently Asia Director and Partner at Jack Rouse Associates, a global leader in exhibition and attraction design, and has held the position since 2009.

Boonler was CEO of Penang Skills Development Centre for close to 25 years until February this year. Prior to that, he held various positions in administration, including at several tertiary education institutions.

The statement also quoted Najib as saying: “The appointments announced today are part of efforts by the Government and Khazanah to lay strong foundations for the future success of our national carrier.” – December 5, 2014.

This is the largest church in southeast Asia. Where two years ago will never publicized CHURCH construction site, the most modern and sophisticated, the concept of Freemasons in Malaysia. Now on July 23, 2013 The largest church in Southeast Asia has opened its doors against the backdrop of the debate on religious freedom in Malaysia and subtle discrimination claims against non-Muslims.

The Pentecostal church minister said that the construction of CCC on commercial land began in 2007 and was completed this year, noting that it will be able to accommodate a congregation of 3,000 that were previously scattered in Damansara Heights, Damansara Perdana and Cheras.
